Sunset At Dawn! I guess that was the first sane thing I thought of after I had cleared my head of the confusion that followed the news of your demise. I had always known you way back in school, but from a distance. My friends and colleagues spoke and speaks highly of you to my hearing. But all I could afford was to admire you from a distance.
Luck finally shone on me when I saw you at ICT State CDS Enugu a couple of months ago. You came to tutor us on the prestigious “Hour Of Code” which you initiated during your service year. There and then, I knew it was an opportunity to finally speak with you.
That discussion was the first of the only two discussions I ever had with you. They were short and concise; but long enough for me to have a firsthand understanding of how remarkable you are. I loved you at the spot. In less than a minute, I fell in love with your demeanor, intellect, disposition, humility, drive and unalloyed personality.
It’s just so difficult trying to accept the reality that I’m never gonna see your face again. I remember the early days of my service when I was yet to get a PPA. Franklin Nwanze called me aside and said, “Contact Dika, he’ll give you a programming-related PPA.”
He said those words with certainty because he knew you were gonna give me a job even though you barely knew me. That’s how beautiful your heart was—always ready to help people around you irrespective of who they are. I wish you knew how highly we thought of you. I wish I told you how much I looked up to you. Without an iota of exaggeration, you a perfect role model with traits that I long to possess someday.
‘Cos your light was unduly snuffed
The beautiful morning is gone
And the night of sorrows is upon us
We’ll cloth ourselves in ashes
Bath in a myriad of tears
Recount the beautiful days gone by
And mourn till our strengths are gone
If words can tamper with death, surely I would have written you back to life.
I miss you bro, ICT State CDS Enugu miss you; The beautiful world that barely knew your potentials miss you.
Till we meet again Dika…
